William Pooley spends some quality time with his dad on a fishing holiday in Devon. At least that was the plan. He meets up with Rebecca, farmer's daughter and budding jockey. First impression?
A bit stroppy for William's liking. But with a common interest in the badgers down in the woods their friendship grows.
In a clearing in the woods there is a camp. Not native americans, but travellers, eco warriors. Rebecca sees them as another threat, while William acquires an unexpected supporter. The badgers' safety becomes a twenty-four hour concern for the youngsters, with threats comming from different and unexpected directions. Together they plan their observation schedule, but in the dead of night William has to face the dangers alone.
