The badger is the last truly wild large mammal left in the Britsh countryside and this book is an account of it's plight. Man has persecuted the badger for hundreds of years; the practice of badger-baiting continues to this day, despite the badger's official status as a 'protected species'. Now this distinctive animal has been eradicated in certain areas of the country by the Ministery of Agriculture in its attempt to control the spread of bovine TB.
This book aims to focus the attention of those who love the countryside and its wildlife on the conflicts which threaten the survival of the badger - a mass of detailed information enables readers to reach their own conclusions.
'As the debate on badger persecution rages, this book is a timely and valuable source of information and provides plenty of food for thought.' Mark Carwardine, WWF
